Conifers and Mistletoes

Evergreen trees and mistletoe both come to mind when we decorate with holiday greenery, but did you know that they are often found together in nature?

Mistletoes grow parasitically on other plants, capable of infesting a variety of tree species. Dwarf mistetoes, in the genus Arceuthobium, grow specifically on our favorite holiday evergreen trees—Pines, Spruces and Firs.

On these herbarium specimens the two have been collected together. Add some lights and your holidays decorations are done!
