Skunk Cabbage

A locally occuring arum in the northeast U.S., skunk cabbage, Symplocarpus foetidus (L.) W.Salisb. ex W.P.C.Barton.

This plant lives in swampy or wet places and flowers in early spring. It can grow up through ice and snow because it generates its own heat!
