Many of the stamens of the zygomorphic-flowered Lecythidaceae with hoods have clavate filaments. The actinomorphic-flowered species and the filaments of species of Cariniana, Couratari, and Couroupita are examples of genera without clavate filaments. It is often difficult to distinguish between clavate from tapered filaments and there can be what appear to be clavate and tapered filaments in the same flower.
