The New York Botanical Garden is in the process of cataloging its holdings of Neotropical Lecythidaceae. We have completed the collections gathered from Mesoamerica (southern Mexico to eastern Panama), and have entered information for the best known species of the family, the Brazil nut (Bertholletia excelsa) and the cannon-ball tree (Couroupita guianensis), into the database. We will continue with species from other parts of the Neotropics as time and funding permit.
