An ovule that departs from a poorly developed placenta that hangs downward at the apex of the locule as seen in a longitudinal section of the ovary.
Notes:

All species of Grias, and only species of this genus in the Neotropics, have pendulous ovules. However this type of placentation is found in Barringtonia and related genera in the Paleotropics.
