Term:
Ovule orientation horizontal
Ovule orientation horizontal
Definition:
Refers to an ovule that departs from the middle part of the placenta at a more-or-less 90 degree angle as seen in longitudinal section.
Refers to an ovule that departs from the middle part of the placenta at a more-or-less 90 degree angle as seen in longitudinal section.
Notes:
Ovule orientation has to take into consideration that the ovules are constrained by the type of placenta and the size and orientation of the locules. For example, an arched placentat may have somewhat erect ovules at the rounded apex oblique ovules in the middle of the placenta. In addition, short, horizontally oriented locules may force the ovules into horizontal orientation.
