Basal placentation
Definition:
A type of placentation in which the ovules arise from the base of the locule.
A type of placentation in which the ovules arise from the base of the locule.
Notes:
This type of placentation differs from free-central placentation in that the ovules arise directly from the floor of the locule instead of a from a small column or peg that in turn arises from the base of the locule. The single basal ovule of a sedge is an example of basal placentation.
