Definition:

The outer covering of the ovule that develops into the testa or seed coat; it may be composed of one or two layers, the inner and outer integuments, respectively.

Notes:

In neotropical Lecythidaceae, there are two integuments and the inner one usually forms the micropyle. An ovule with two integuments is called bitegmic.
