Hearts

Herbarium specimens are close to my heart, and it's fun to imagine that some specimens show their appreciation for our affection in the shape of hearts.

If you find it in your heart to read up on plants, know that heart shaped leaves are decribed as cordate if the notch (lobes) are at the base of the leaf and, less commonly, obcordate if the notch is at the apex (tip) of the leaf. See examples under A Closer Look.
