Otto Kuntze spent two full years from February 1874 to February 1876 traveling around the globe. Sailing from Europe, his first destination was the Caribbean, where he landed in St. Thomas. He traveled through Central America and North America. After making his way from New York westward to San Francisco, Kuntze proceeded to Asia traveling by ship to Japan. From there he explored China, Southeast Asia and India. The final stop on his trip around the world was in Egypt, where he caught a ship to Italy and finally a train back to Germany.
