Description:

Bejuco de flores grandes amarillas y frutos en forma de pepinillo grande que cuando tiernos son carnosos comestibles y al secar se descascaran perdiendo la semilla. Este esqueleto vegetal esponjoso se ha utilizado como esponja de baño y estropajo. Ha crecido espontáneo luego del cultivo. Nativo de África está distribuido en las Indias Occidentales y América Tropical. Reed of large yellow flowers and fruits in the shape of a gherkin that when tender are fleshy and edible, and when dry they break to pieces losing the seeds. This spongy vegetal skeleton has been used as bath sponge and like scourer. It has grown wild after have been cultivated. Native of Africa, it is distributed in the West Indies and Tropical America.
