Description:
Description - Trees, 9-30 m tall. Leaf blades elliptic or oblong, 12-19.5 x 3.5-6 cm, glabrous, punctate abaxially, with 12-14 pairs of lateral veins; apex acuminate; base obtuse to rounded; margins entire; petiole 3-9 mm long. Inflorescences terminal or axillary, unbranched, racemose, the rachis 1-6 cm long. Flowers unknown. Fruits globose, 1-1.5 x 2.5-3 cm (excluding operculum and pedicel), the calycine ring inserted at or slightly above middle, the supracalycine zone erect, the infracalycine zone rounded; operculum convex, usually umbonate, 1-1.5 cm high.

Discussion:
The flowers of Eschweilera hondurensis are unknown. The leaf texture and shape as well as the size and form of the Honduran and Panamanian collections are similar but there are no collections from the intervening area.The fruits of E. hondurensis are similar to those of E. longipedicellata.
