Description:
Genus Description - Monoecious or dioecious, erect or prostrate, succulent herbs, lacking stinging hairs. Leaves opposite, simple, petiolate, those of a pair equal or unequal; stipules free or connate. Flowers unisexual, in the same or in separate simple or compound axillary inflorescences; staminate flowers with 4, nearly equal sepals and a rudimentary ovary; pistillate flowers with 3 unequal sepals and a nearly ovoid ovary, the stigma penicillate. Fruit a compressed-ovate achene.
