Description:

Genus Description - Emergent trees, the adults usually buttressed. Bark with very fine vertical cracks, never deeply fissured. Leaves brochidodromous, the tertiary veins reticulate or percurrent. Flowers diurnal, zygomorphic; sepals 6; petals 6; androecial hood with well-developed inward coil and external flap, the flap externally echinate or smooth, the appendages of hood without anthers, the anthers with lateral dehiscence; ovary 3-locular, the ovules inserted on septum toward base of locule. Fruits cylindric or campanulate. Seeds completely surrounded by wing; embryo with foliaceous cotyledons.
