Description:

Small tree 3 to 4 m. high. Leaves coriaceous, dark green above, paler beneath. Flower buds with deep purple pedicel and calyx. Petals bright scarlet. Stigma reddish-pink. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
Habitat:

Restinga by the sea, with strand vegetation progressivley developing into scrub and low forest further inland.
