Brazil. Bahia. Ca 6 km SW of Itacaré. On side road south from the main Itacaré - Ubaitaba road, south of the mouth of the Rio de Contas. Alt. 100m. (328 ft.)

Description:

Large forest sedge. Leaves shiny darkish-green, to 1.5 m long. Bases of bracts and cauline leaves reddish-tinged as are rays of inflo. Glumes pale glaucous green. Costa forming prominent keel below:- Peduncle of inflo. to 60 cm long or more, leaves and lowermost bracts twice as long as peduncle or more. Peduncle sharply trigonou. Phenology of specimen: Fertile.
Habitat:

High coastal evergreen forest on heavy loam. This plant growing in shade.
