Description:

Wood soft, sappy white; inflorescence axillary; the cap flattish, sunken at the apex, reddish, the lid first spliting open at the top and then falling - leaving the rim-like receptacle with the flowers exposed; the basal portion of the flowers red, otherwise creamy white; fruits scattering or forming dense clumps several inches thick, dull blue, ellipsoid, 1 inch long, upon dark blue pedicels. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
Habitat:

Moist rich humus covered soil in steep wooded slopes.
