Description:
Tall scattering herbs, inflorescence erect, from the upper leaf sheath 2 to 1 foot long and upon 1 to 2 feet long stalks; flowers fleshy, soon perishing, the outer parts white, the inner part yellow and deep red on the inside, deflexed; buds also white with pink apices; leaves variable in size, soft, conduplicate and darker green above, 5 inches apart; margins and inner surface of sheaths dark red; stems recurved, 3 to 7 feet high, with ascending leaves arranged in distichous rows;.
