Description:
Species Description - Shrub or small tree 1 —12(—25) m tall, with mangrove habit; bark light gray, smooth. Leaf blades 3-10 x 2-5.7 cm, elliptic to obovate, coriaceous, glabrous, the lower surface with prominent stout midvein, punctate, the apex obtuse, the base attenuate to cuneate, the margins entire, revolute; petioles 0.5-2.5 cm long, glabrous; stipules lanceolate, to 3.5 cm long, with glandular hairs at base within. Cymes 2(-5)-flowered; peduncles 2.5-5 cm long, glabrous; pedicels stout with a pair of bracteoles subtending the flower. Calyx greenish, bell-shaped, the sepals 1-1.5 cm long, lanceolate, thick, keeled within, persistent in fruit; petals 1 cm long, lanceolate, reflexed, turning from cream-colored to yellowish with age; stamens sessile, the anthers ca. 5 mm long; ovary ovoid. Berry conical, 2-2.5 cm long, the hypocotyl 15-30 cm long, stout and fleshy.
