Description:

Photographs taken of Gustavia angustifolia after fire. One of the images shows a plant with dry and brown leaves but is still alive at the base and another plant is flushing new leaves, demonstrating that at least some of the plants are resistent to fire. The first author of this note observed 300 plants of G. angustifolia adversely affected by the fire but about 200 were regrowing from the base of the plant. The fire took place from 6-11 December 2011 and the photos were taken in early April 2012. The photos taken on Cerro Colorado in a tropical dry forest within the the city limits of Guayaquil, Province of Guayas, Ecuador.
