Description:

Taxonomic notes: Gustavia corymbosa is a nomen nudum because is has only been published as a name in synonymy under G. angustifolia by R. Knuth (1939). The plate has Gustavia corymbosa written on the back but the features drawn on the plate probably represent G. angustifolia because the inflorescence is terminal, the calyx-lobes are four, and the bracts and bractoles are relatively small; for example, not as large as they are in G. pubescens. There are, however, several parts of the plate that do not seem to agree with the features of G. angustifolia. In the first place, "C" does not resemble that of any species of "Gustavia" and, in the second place, the leaves are much smaller than those of G. angustifolia. The small leaves are a good match for G. serrata, which also has 4 calyx-lobes, but the stems are more robust than those of G. serrata and similar to those of G. angustifolia. The inflorescences of G. serrata are most commonly ramiflorous and not terminal as shown in the attached plate.
