Description:

Unbranched tree 12 m tall, ca. 20 cm dbh. Leaf blades to 100 x 40 cm, but to 150 cm long in other individuals in this area; the blades beneath inconspicuously pubescent mainly at base; leaf margins sinuate to dentate; tertiaries mostly impressed to plain beneath. Fruits attached to trunk, the pedicels 0.2-2 cm long. The seeds initially has a cabbage-like taste, later turning bitter and mildly spicy (in the throath). Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
Habitat:

Premontane wet forest. sympatric with Grias peruviana (Cornejo 8189).
