Term:

Funicle
Definition:

The cord that attaches the ovule and subsequently the seed to the fruit wall.
Notes:

The funicle of some species of Gustavia, such as G. augusta, is yellow and contorted while that of other species is surrounded at the base or along the side of the seed by a white aril. Funicles are present in almost all species of Lecythidaceae but they vary greatly in size and position and, thus, are of great utility in the classification of genera.
