Term:

Calyx-lobes imbricate
Definition:

Overlapping of the adjacent edges of the calyx-lobes or sepals.
Notes:

In New World Lecythidaceae, some species have sepals that overlap, especially at their bases, and other species have sepals that do ot overlap. Usually the thinner in texture the sepals are the more they overlap. Calyx-lobes and sepals are both used for the free ends of the calyx. In this family, it is assumed that the lower part of the calyx is fused to the ovary wall so calyx-lobe is the more correct term.
