Definition:

Buttress of a tree trunk that is elevated above the ground. Compare with plank buttress and running buttress.

Notes:

Flying buttresses can be branched or unbranched. They are often arched from the trunk to the ground and are usually separated from one another in such a way that they that one can look through them.
