Term:

Androecial hood: Couratari-type
Definition:

The androecial hood has an extra external flap found only in species of .
Notes:

Although the external flap occurs in all species of Couratari, there is a difference in the echination of the outside of the hood; for example, the hoods of C. stellata and its relatives (Couratari sect. Echinata fide Prance, 1990) are echinate while those of C. guianensis and its relatives (Couratari sect. Tauari fide Prance, 1990) are not. The recognition of these two groups is strongly supported by molecular data as is the monophylly of Couratari. There is, however, no support for the recognition of any of the other sections but that may be the result of inadequate sampling (Mori et. al., 2007)..
