Term:

Cerrado
Definition:

A Portuguese term referring to a type of vegetation with scatttered shrubs and relatively small, often contorted trees with thick bark and grasses and sedges dominating the understory.
Notes:

This term is the Brazilian equivalent of savanna in most other parts of the world. Some classifications of cerrados are much more sophisticated than being used here and include vegetation types that are prairie-like all the way to low forest habitats.
