Anthers basifixed

Definition:

Anthers attached to their filaments at the very base.

Notes:

All species of zygomorphic-flowered and most species of neotropical actinomorphic-flowered species of Lecythidaceae have basifixed anthers. These Lecythidaceae, however, differ from most species with basifixed anthers because there is a constriction at the apices of the filaments called filament stalks which allow the anthers to wiggle when they are touched by pollinators. The only known exceptions are species of Grias which have both filament stalks and versatile anthers. As far as we know, all Old World Lecythidaceae have basifixed anthers that lack filament stalks.
