Definition:

A waxy layer of the leaf blade that covers the epidermal cells.

Notes:

In neotropical Lecythidaceae, the cuticle is well-developed because, even though most of its species grow in moist tropical areas, the leaves are exposed to heat and drying winds and, thus, need to conserve water.
