Definition:
In neotropical Lecythidaceae, the side of the flower from which the ligule arises.

Notes:
The anterior end of the flower in zygomorphic-flowered Lecythidaceae is where the pollinators enter whereas the posterior end of the flower is blocked by the appendage free ligule. Nevertheless, some pollinators can enter from the sides of the flower unless there is a lateral flange to block entry from that end of the flower. The anterior and posterior ends of the flower are not used to describe actinomorphic-flowered Lecythidaceae.
