In the past, the androecium has been called the androphore but Monteiro-Scanavacca (1975) pointed out that all parts of the androecium arise from the stamens and, thus, the term is not appropriate for neotropical Lecythidaceae because androphore means bearing the androecium.

Definition:

A ring of stamens surrounding the pistil at the summit of the ovary.

Notes:

All zygomorphic-flowered Lecythidaceae have a staminal ring but they are absent in the actinomorphic-flower neotropical Lecythidaceae and in species of Cariniana
