Definition:

The pedicel/hypanthium is tapered gradually to the ariculation such that a true pedicel appears to be present

Notes:

In the Lecythidaceae, there is not a clear distinction between pedicel and hypanthiuim so the entire area from the point of flower attachment to the base of the calyx-lobes is considered the pedicel/hypanthium. Neotropical Lecythidaceae have a bract at the base of the pedicel/hypanthiuim and two bracteoles somewhere on it. In most species, the bracteoles are situated below the articulation, as show in this image, but in species of Gustavia they are above the articulation. The bracts and bracteoles are usually caducous
