Description: Sprout or sucker of Ailanthus altiissima based on an unvouchered plant in Westchester County, New York. This tree was cut down two years before this photo was taken and continues to sprout even after all sprouts around the tree stump have been cut several times. By August 2012 the stump had mostly stopping sprouting.

Definition:

A secondary shoot arising from the base of a tree or shrub or from the bases of many monocots. Same as sprout which is the prefered term.
