Definition:
A type of placenta which is barely expanded from the septum as seen in medial longitudinal section.

Notes:
The only neotropical genus of Lecythidaceae in the Neotropics with this type of placenta is Grias which is also the only neotropical species with pendulous ovules inserted near the apex of the locule. The same type of placentation, however, is found in at least Barringtonia and its relatives of the Paleotropics. We have called this type of placenta incipient instead of vestigial because we believe that it is less evolved than the other types of placenta that we have seen in neotropical Lecythidaceae.
