Term:

ex Author
Definition:

Used to indicate the publication of a name that was coined by another person but not validly published.
Notes:

The ex author(s) preparing the protologue publishing the name is (are) given more credit for publishing the name so the author who coined the name is sometimes dropped. For example, João Murça Pires wrote the name Corythophora amapaensis on a herbarium sheet and indicated that it was a species new to science. S. A. Mori and G. T. Prance then published the name as Corythophora amapaensisPires ex S. A. Mori & Prance which can be shortened to Corythophora amapaensis S. A. Mori & Prance.
