Description: Cross section of an ovary with four locules and few ovules per locule of Grias cauliflora based on Nee & Mori 3574 from the Osa Peninsula, Puntarenas, Costa Rica. Note how the endocarp has eight buttresses. The ovary wall is inside the endocarp which makes it difficult for us to decide what term to provide for type of fruit developing from this kind of ovary. Definition:

The female part of the flower (i.e., the pistil).

Notes:

The ovaries of species of Lecythidaceae are mostly inferior.
