Term:
Leaf flush
Leaf flush
Definition:
The expansion of new leaves.
The expansion of new leaves.
Notes:
In the Lecythidaceae, some species drop their leaves, flower, and then flush new leaves (e.g., most species of pink-flowered Couratari such as C. guianensis); others drop their leaves and flower and flush new leaves at about the same time (e.g., Couroupita guianensis and Lecythis poiteaui); and others do not seem to have a correlation between leaf flush and flowering (e.g., most species of Gustavia and many species of Eschweilera).
