Description:
Diagnosis: Basidioma hypogeous to emergent, sequestrate, subglobose, stipitate, dirty white to grayish or brownish but becoming brownish when bruised, glabrous or locally covered with repent to slightly reflexed, dark brown to blackish squamules. Hymenophore greyish to brownish, staining brown when cut, then to blackish slowly, mostly longitudinally loculate. Stipe attenuate upwards, pale gray to grey-brown, nearly smooth, covered with grey-brown to blackish floccose squamules; context dirty white to brownish, becoming brownish when injured; columella present, greyish to brownish, staining brown when cut, then to blackish slowly. Spores orthotropic, ellipsoid to ovoid, longitudinally ridged with intercostal veins, with distinct rim present around hialr appendix.
Registration number: MB 819800
Type: Buyck 96271 (PC).
Ectomycorrhiza: Not known for certain but occuring in regenrating forest on former agricultural land.
Distribution: Zambia
Commentary: First known sequestrate (secotioid) taxon in Afroboletus. Phylogenetic inference places this taxon near Strobilomyces but sister to the epigeous A. elegans from Benin. So far, known only from type locality.
