Description:

Latin Diagnosis: Similis in facie Tylopilo chromapedi (Frost) Smith & Thiers sed differt prominenti stipitis reticulo cum rosea pruina, cellulis trichodermis flavis Melzeris diluto, sporis aurantiacisferreis in Melzeris diluto et stipitibus brevibus, et latix.

Type: AUSTRALIA, Queensland, Cooloola National Park (26°02' S, 153°06' E), Warrawonga dune system, in litter under Eucalyptus pilularis and Syncarpia hillii, 10 May 1988, Neale Bougher (4026), BRIP 19679; isotype: (PACMA 1238).

Disposition: A synonym of Australopilus palumanus.

Ectomycorrhiza: Myrtaceae (Eucalyptus pilularis, Syncarpia hillii)

Distribution: Queensland; Cooloola sandmass.

Comments: When described, this taxon was thought to be allied to the Tylopilus chromapes group but appeared to differ in some macro- and microscopic character states (e.g., a prominent reticulum on stipe and dextrinoid spores).
