Description:

Pileus 4.5-13 cm broad when mature, dry, convex to plano-convex to plane, subtomentose to matted subtomentose at first, becoming finely areolate with age, dark brown to dark reddish brown (8F8) when young, becoming pale reddish brown and eventually yellow (4A5) when mature. Flesh up to 1.5 cm thick when mature, bright yellow (3A6) rapidly changing to blue when exposed, then becoming bluish white, with mild odor and taste. Tubes adnate or barely adnexed, rather shallow (up to 9 mm long), yellow (3A5), changing rapidly to blue when exposed; pores brownish red (7, 8C-D8, 7) staining blue green when bruised, less than 1 mm broad. Stipe 5-9 cm long, 1-2 cm broad, strict or curved, slightly broader at base to ±equal, sometimes expanded at the apex with age, dry, yellow at apex with fine red reticulum for about 7-9 mm, brownish red (7, 8C-D8,7) and finely pruinose below, deep yellow at base, changing to blue green when bruised; interior deep yellow, solid, changing to blue when exposed.
Habitat:

Montane cloud forest. Quercus seemannii, Q. rapurahuensis, Q. copeyensis. Gregarious to subcespitose. On soil.
