Description:
Pileus 5-8 cm broad, convex to plano convex, dry, matted subtomentose, cinnamon brown (6C6) with some red over tones here and there, especially with age and becoming near Titian red (7D6) with an even margin. Flesh up to 2 cm thick, white changing to blue when exposed, with mild odor and taste. NH4(-) on pileus. Tubes depressed around stipe, up to 1 cm long, bright yellow (2A2), changing to blue immediately when bruised, more sordid yellow with age; pores concolorous, bluing immediately with bruising, <1 mm broad. Stipe 8-10 cm long, 1-1.4 cm broad, ±equal to barely subclavate, dry, subpruinose, not reticulate, sometimes with obscure longitudinal ridges/streaks, yellow (3A4) above, becoming progressively more rhubarb red (violet brown, 10E-F5), with white basal mycelium; interior white above, yellow below, bluing as in pileus.
