Costa Rica. Guanacaste. Near Liberia, Area Conservacion Guanacaste, Rincon de la Vieja, sector Santa Maria, sendero al Agua Termales, 3 km al oeste de estacion.

Description:

See REH 7756 (older material). Pileus 7-10.5 cm broad, convex to plano-convex, dry, soft and leathery to the touch, subtomentose to subvelutinous, becoming finely areolate especially toward the margin, dark brown overall at first (7F6), becoming paler (cinnamon brown, 6E7) toward margin with age. Flesh white, unchanging, up to 2 cm thick, with pungent to mild odor and mild taste. Tubes adnexed to deeply depressed around the stipe, olive (3D-E5-4), with pores concolorous, up to 1 mm broad, dull brownish with time when bruised. Stipe 6-8 cm long, 1-2 cm broad, ±equal but then tapered at base, dry, reticulate over half the length, brown (6F6) with reticulum concolorous, white at the base, with interior white, unchanging, solid. NH4OH: dark orange on spot of application, obscurely purplish surrounding spot.
Habitat:

Oak forest on volcano. Quercus oleides. Gregarious. On soil.
