Description:

Pileus 4.5-8 cm broad, convex, dry to somewhat resinous, matted tomentose, red orange (7A8) at first, then paler reddish orange (7B8-7C8) with age, eventually more reddish (near 9B8-9C8), bruising blue black from injury, with incurved margin when young. Flesh orange in cap, bruising blue green with exposure, up to 15 mm thick. Tubes orange, adnate, blue green when cut, up to 7 mm deep; pores concolorous and bruising likewise, 2-3 per mm. Stipe 7-13 cm long, 7-15 mm broad, dry, ±equal to subclavate, sulphur yellow with coarse orange pruina when young, eventually the surface is orange and the coarse pruina yellow with age, bruising blue green from handling; interior yellow, solid, immediately blue green when exposed. N.B. colors of stipe as seen with a lens; exact match with Methuen plates not possible.

Habitat:

Mixed forest. Lithocarpus, Castanopsis acuminatissima, Anisoptera thurifera. Gregarious. On soil, humus.
