Description:

Pileus 5-12 cm broad, convex to plano-convex, dry, coarsely truncated scaly on disc, finely squamulose toward margin, orange yellow on disc with some pale red, more red toward margin, with sterile appendiculate veil remnants. Flesh yellow, immediately cyanescent, with mild odor and taste. Tubes adnexed, greenish yellow to sordid yellow, immediately cyanescent, with pores concolorous becoming pale brown in some with age. Stipe 6-14 cm long, 1-1.5 cm broad, equal with a bulbous base, red to dull red, becoming tan to ochraeous below with age, white at the base, fibrillose striate nearly throughout, subruinose matted at apex, with interior dull yellow nearly throughout, with some white to tan at base and subtly brownish orange slowly oxidizing in base.
