All Determinations:

Strobilomyces ps-twelve det. L. Han
Note: cf. velutipes, H. Sato, Str1

Location:

Australia. Queensland. Mareeba Shire. Tablelands. Davies Creek National Park, Davies Creek Road. Alt. 720 m. (2362 ft.)
Collector(s):

R. E. Halling 8780 with T.W. Osmundson, 23 Feb 2006
Description:

Pileus 2-4 cm broad, convex, dry, squamose to squamulose, gray to black with some pinkish gray in young ones. Flesh white, soon gray then black when exposed, barely with a red to orangish red line under pileipellis; the only truly red to orangish red stain occurs in the stipe base. N.B. this material is similar to earlier collctions from Davies Creek, but this is young and very fresh. The veil at pileus margin is inrolled to incurved and seems not to be a UV in the sense of S. floccopus. However, the stipe has a thickened zone of tissue (pale gray) that would indicate a veil. The stipe is white to pale gray then black with a lanose reticulum. The base is a pale orangish pink when young, not seen before in previous material (perhaps overlooked?).
Habitat:

Dry sclerophyll. Allocasuarina, Eucalyptus. Gregarious. On soil.
