Description:

Pileus: 58 mm, convex, densely matted subtomentose, becoming aereolate, cinnamon to leather brown (6D6-6E6); margin bluing where handled. Context white, spongy, unchanging. Odor pungent but not identifiable; taste mild.Stipe: 50 (estimated; stipe broken on specimen) x 7 mm, solid, longitudinally fibrous-striate; fibers brown (6E7). Context white to very pale brown.Hymenophore: Poroid, depressed around stipe; pores 0.75-2 mm in diameter, strongly angular, sand (4B3), staining blue; tubes 4-8 mm in length, concolorous.Macrochemical Reaction: All tissues turn reddish-violet with exposure to NH4OH (even to fumes only)Comments: Specimen somewhat old, so staining reactions may be obscured; however, hymenium stained readily, so perhaps not.

on roadbank, near Castanopsis armata.
