Authors:

Nathan P. Smith, Caroline Carollo, Scott Alan Mori
Scientific Name:

Eschweilera nana (O.Berg) Miers
Description:

Features as seen in cross-section through placentae or by removing ovary wall to expose locules without damaging ovules: ovary 2-locular; ovules obovoid, tightly aggregated, ca. 20 per locule, in multiple columns and rows, appearing as an irregular ball, obliquely oriented upward and outward, septae oriented at right angles to placentae. Features as seen in longitudinal section: locules obliquely oriented upward and outward, nearly same width throughout, flattened to main axis of locular, the width ca. twice as long as the length; lower septum spread out into placentae, the latter appearing to form base of locule, the upper septum occupying 80% of lower/upper septum length.
