Description:

Description - Large trees, to 31 m tall, the young branches glabrous. Leaf blades oblong, 9-11.5 x 3-4.5 cm, coriaceous, glabrous; midrib prominulous above, prominent and glabrous beneath; secondary veins 14-17 pairs, prominulous on both surfaces; apex acuminate, the acumen 4-5 cm long; base cuneate to subcuneate; margins undulate to slightly crenate; petiole 5-9 mm long, glabrous, canaliculate above, not winged. Inflorescences terminal or subterminal racemes, the rachis stellate pubescent; pedicels 4-5 mm long, densely stellate tomentose, articulate at or near rachis. Hypanthium campanulate, ca. 4 mm long, with conspicuous, tufted, stellate tomentose indumentum on exterior; calyx lobes ovate, ca. 5 mm long, stellate tomentose on exterior; petals ovate, shortly stellate pubescent on exterior, glabrous within; androecium yellow, glabrous, the exterior of hood with numerous, dense, echinate appendages, the stamens ca. 40, inserted around staminal ring in several rows; ovary 3-locular. Fruit not seen.

Discussion:

Local use. The wood is used for plywood.
