Term:

Suprafoliar inflorescence
Definition:

Referring to an inflorescences that arises from above the leaves.
Notes:

In Lecythidaceae, a suprafoliar inflorescences does not necessarily terminate growth. In species of Gustavia such as G. grandibracteata, G. monocaulis, and G. sessilis the flowers arise in the axils of bracts that appear to terminate the stem. However, the terminal vegetative bud is not aborted and subsequent growth is monopodial. In other genera, an inflorescence that is found at the end of a branch may or may not terminate growth.
