Identifications for staff collections that were processed at NYBG are handled differently than identifications for specimens that you receive from other herbaria as gifts for det.
Identifications for staff collections
New determinations received for staff collections, for which we owe dets to other institutions, are recorded in EMu. The det manager oversees the entering of determinations into the database, sends lists of dets to staff periodically by email, and reports determinations to host herbaria annually. Please record the determinations you receive in your field books.

Identifications of specimens sent to you from other herbaria
You have two choices for reporting identifications.
- If you want it done promptly, please type a list and send it by email or record the names on the chits included with the specimens and send them by regular mail. If you choose to do the latter, you may wish to photocopy the chits before you mail them in case the envelope gets lost.
- Alternatively, you may put your list or the chits in the folders in the black filing cabinet near the photocopier on the fourth floor. Periodically, the det manager will scan the chits and email them to the various herbaria.
- We are currently working on method to report identifications to other herbaria using a searchable website. Stay tuned for details.
